In its day, the Newfoundland railway carried passengers and freight between Port aux Basques and St. John's with frequent stops in Corner Brook. At the time, the fastest train in the province was known as the Newfie Bullet. While the Newfoundland Railway no longer operates, the Newfie Bullet is now the focal point of the Railway Society of Newfoundland Historic Train Site.

"The Old Man In the Mountain"

According to local legend, the Spanish buried a treasure on Shellbird Island in the Humber River, about five minutes from Corner Brook. If you look closely, you will see the face of an old man in a rock formation overlooking the island. "The Old Man In the Mountain" is said to be a marker for the treasure. Best seen from the rest area provided just off the eastbound Trans Canada Highway, Exit #7.

Newfoundland coyote

These large coyotes have established themselves here on the island of Newfoundland and they intend to stay. The government now has place bounties on these animals to control the populations.  The Newfoundland  coyote looks like a half-wolf and half-coyote. They are quite large.  There has been evidence of the Newfoundland coyote bringing down full-grown moose and caribou.
